We aim for Geography at Christ Church to be an exciting subject for all children. Geography enables pupils to gain an understanding of their surroundings and the wider world. It helps pupils learn how the environment can affect their lives and helps to develop a sense of identity and promote responsible citizenship. We also aim to challenge our children in Geography lessons, to go beyond the facts, to inspire them to think about their own place in the world, their values, their rights and their responsibilities to other people and the environment.
Through our teaching of Geography, we aim to give our pupils the skills and knowledge they require to become the best geographers that they can be. In partnership with Christ Church Junior School, we have produced a Progression of Knowledge and skills document. This outlines the progression of each of the 4 key skills through Key Stage 1 and 2 and the knowledge that will be taught. (Listed below)
Human and Physical Geography
Geographical skills and Fieldwork
These key skills will be taught through carefully planned topics.
The impact of our Geography Curriculum is that children will have learned more about their surroundings and the wider world. They will have been encouraged to think about how the environment can affect their lives and will have developed a responsible attitude towards the environment.
Children at Christ Church will be encouraged to think of themselves as geographers and be inspired to develop a passion for Geography. They will achieve at least Age Related Expectations in Geography.
